4x4 MRAP built at Egypt's Factory 200 from a design that originated in South Africa
The ST-100 is a 4x4 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) armoured personnel carrier built in Egypt by IMUT with the Ministry of Military Production's Factory 200. The vehicle line was first developed in South Africa before moving to Egypt in 2018, and the ST-100 has been in Egyptian service since 2021.
What is the ST-100? Overview and origins
The ST-100 belongs to a vehicle line first developed in South Africa in 2016 by SASKA, a company owned by an Egyptian businessman. In 2018 the line was moved to Egypt under the name International Marathon United Technologies (IMUT), in partnership with the Egyptian military. Production now takes place at Factory 200, part of the Ministry of Military Production.
The vehicle's foreign origin is therefore clear, but its Egyptian content has grown. According to Ahram Online in September 2024, around 50% of components are sourced locally, while the design, assembly, electronics and remote turret are entirely Egyptian. Ahram Online says the ST-100 is offered in 10 configurations.
The ST-100 made its first public appearance at EDEX 2018 in Cairo. In January 2019 Army Recognition reported that the Egyptian military had completed testing and asked for unspecified adjustments. The vehicle and its smaller ST-500 sibling were shown abroad for the first time at IDEX 2019 in Abu Dhabi.
ST-100 design, protection and armament
The ST-100 is 6.45 m long, 2.63 m wide and 3.8 m high, with a curb weight of 14,500 kg and a payload of 3,500 kg. A Cummins ISL 8.9-litre turbo-diesel produces 400 hp at 2,100 rpm and drives through a ZF EcoLife six-speed transmission. Top speed is given as 100-115 km/h.
The standard vehicle carries five people including the driver and commander, and the intervention version takes up to eight. Armament is mounted on a remote-controlled weapon station that can take a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. A fire suppression system and smoke grenade launchers are fitted.
Published protection levels differ. Army Recognition cites CEN SR6/SR7, while Ahram Online cites STANAG Level 4 against 14.5 x 114 mm rounds. As with other MRAPs, the design priority is protecting the occupants against mines and improvised explosive devices on patrol and convoy routes.
ST-100 production and operational use
The ST-100 entered Egyptian service in 2021. That year military.africa reported ST-100 vehicles deployed in the Sinai, where Egyptian forces have conducted long-running security operations. Egypt is the only confirmed operator.
The vehicle forms part of a broader push by Egypt's Ministry of Military Production to build protected vehicles at home. Factory 200 at Abu Zaabal also produces the tracked SENA 200, while the ST-500 shares the ST-100's origin and production arrangement. In September 2024 both IMUT vehicles were displayed at the El Alamein International Airshow.

How did the ST-100 come to be? From SASKA in South Africa to IMUT in Egypt
The ST-100 line was first developed in South Africa in 2016 by SASKA, a firm owned by an Egyptian businessman. In 2018 it was relocated to Egypt under the name International Marathon United Technologies (IMUT), in partnership with the Egyptian military.
The vehicle made its first public appearance at EDEX 2018 in Cairo. In January 2019 Army Recognition reported that the Egyptian military had completed testing of the ST-100 and requested unspecified adjustments. The ST-100 and its smaller ST-500 sibling were then shown abroad for the first time at IDEX 2019 in Abu Dhabi.
Where is the ST-100 produced? Factory 200 and local content
The vehicle is built at the Ministry of Military Production's Factory 200 at Abu Zaabal. Ahram Online reported in September 2024 that it has around 50% locally sourced components and an entirely Egyptian design, assembly, electronics and remote turret.
That description of Egyptian design refers to the version developed after the move to Egypt; the line itself began in South Africa. Factory 200 is also the plant for tracked vehicles such as the SENA 200, so the ST-100 shares a production site with other Egyptian armoured programmes. The remaining roughly half of the components is not locally sourced.
Where is the ST-100 used? Service entry and deployment
Egypt is the only operator listed. The vehicle is 6.45 m long, 2.63 m wide and 3.8 m high, with a stated maximum speed of 100-115 km/h. The in-service date is 2021, and military.africa reported ST-100 vehicles deployed in the Sinai in early 2021.
Ahram Online states that the ST-100 is offered in 10 configurations. Protection claims differ: Army Recognition cites CEN SR6/SR7, while Ahram Online cites STANAG Level 4 against 14.5 x 114 mm rounds. The two descriptions use different standards, and the catalogue does not rank one over the other. The vehicle also carries a fire suppression system and smoke grenade launchers.
ST-100 and ST-500 compared: two vehicles from the same line
The ST-100 is a 14.5 t 4x4 MRAP with a 3.5 t payload and a 400 hp Cummins ISL engine. The ST-500 is the smaller sibling at 8 t with a 2.5 t payload and a Cummins QSB 6.7-litre engine.
The ST-100 seats a crew of five, or up to eight in the intervention version; the ST-500 carries 3 crew and 5 troops. Both were designed in 2016 by SASKA, relocated in 2018 and shown at EDEX 2018 and IDEX 2019, and both are built with the Ministry of Military Production at Factory 200.
